Vote counting began at 8 am for the Khagaria Assembly seat in the 2025 Bihar elections. The main contest is between Congress and the Janata Dal (United). JDU has fielded Bablu Kumar, while Congress has nominated Dr. Chandan Yadav. Jan Suraj has placed its bet on Jayanti Patel.
At 10:25 am, Bablu Kumar held a lead of 3,125 votes over Chandan Yadav. His lead had already appeared in the early 9 am trends. Counting started with postal ballots, and EVM counting began at 8:30 am. Officials are working across 14 tables, with each round covering 14 EVMs. Early results are expected soon.
Khagaria has a long political history. The seat was formed in 1951, and Congress leader Dwarika Prasad became its first MLA. Congress has won this seat five times and still holds it. Chhatrapati Yadav of Congress won in 2020 with a margin of nearly 3,000 votes. Before that, Poonam Devi dominated the seat with three consecutive wins in 2005, 2010, and 2015. CPI(M)’s Yogendra Singh won in 2000.
In 16 elections so far, Congress has won five times, JDU three times, and several other parties have claimed the seat once each.
