Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has publicly supported Harmanpreet Kaur, the Panjab University student whose video confronting Chandigarh Police during campus protests went viral.
During his Aura Tour 2025 concert in Australia, Diljit paused the show to lead a loud applause for Harmanpreet, praising her courage and her statement asserting Punjab’s rights over Panjab University.
The viral incident unfolded amid intense unrest over the dissolution of the university’s Senate and Syndicate. Although the Centre later rolled back the notification, students continued demanding immediate Senate elections.
On November 10, with campus gates locked to prevent protests, Harmanpreet tried to enter early morning when a policewoman stopped her and grabbed her arm. Her firm reply — “Baanh chhaddo… je mere ‘te pai gayi fer apna hisaab la li… ladte loki zindabad” — quickly made her the symbol of the movement.
She later clarified she was only trying to enter her hostel using her student I-card. The video sparked wide appreciation online, reflecting the growing frustration among students.
