A shocking case of financial exploitation of a senior citizen has surfaced in Chandigarh, where ₹10 lakh vanished from the bank account of an 89-year-old woman residing in Sector-28. Following her complaint, the Sector-26 police station registered a case against her domestic help, SumanDeep Kaur, who is currently on the run.

The victim, Surinder Kaur, is the wife of late Lieutenant Colonel Ajmer Singh Sandhu, a wartime gallantry awardee. She informed police that her bank account is maintained at the SBI Sector-26 branch. Cautious about online fraud, she avoided sharing OTPs, but she occasionally entrusted her domestic help with her debit card to withdraw small cash amounts.

Over time, she noticed that the balance in her account seemed unusually low. She initially sent a family acquaintance to the bank for clarification, but no concrete information emerged. Eventually, when she updated her passbook herself, she discovered that the balance had dropped to ₹6,745, triggering alarm.

Further verification revealed that multiple unauthorized withdrawals had been made by the domestic help, amounting to a total theft of ₹10 lakh. Police have registered an FIR for cheating and criminal breach of trust, and a search operation has been initiated to trace the accused.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are examining transaction details and CCTV footage to build a stronger case.
