Two students of North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) were critically injured on Monday evening after being struck by a vehicle allegedly driven by a university security guard under the influence of alcohol near Gate No. 2 of the campus.
The victims, Dartingen Pohdukriek and Stephanie Shadap from the Chemistry Department, were walking along the roadside when the speeding car first hit a parked scooter and then rammed into the students. Eyewitnesses and CCTV footage suggest the vehicle approached at high speed, pointing to reckless driving.
Both students were immediately taken to Nazareth Hospital, where they remain in critical condition. Medical teams confirmed that their injuries are severe and intensive monitoring is ongoing.
