Heavy Rains Force School Closures in Cuddalore, Villupuram, Puducherry, and Karaikal
Heavy rainfall across Tamil Nadu has led authorities to declare a holiday for schools in Cuddalore and Villupuram districts, while educational institutions in Puducherry and Karaikal have also been closed as a precaution. The decision follows continuous overnight showers and forecasts of more rain due to a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal. Weather officials have issued a yellow alert for eight districts, warning of moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. Local administrations are monitoring vulnerable zones, especially low-lying areas prone to flooding and waterlogging. Disaster response teams have been placed on standby, and parents have been advised to keep children indoors. Transportation services in some areas are experiencing delays, though no major disruptions have been reported yet. With the rain expected to continue, authorities are urging residents to follow safety advisories and avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve.
