Ahead of PM Modi’s Coimbatore Visit, TN CM Stalin Raises Farmers’ Demands

Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin presented three key demands on behalf of farmers, highlighting pressing agricultural concerns. Stalin pointed out that, despite recent inspections by central teams, the Government of India has not yet issued orders to relax the permissible moisture content in crops from 17% to 22%, a change that farmers have been seeking to reduce post-harvest losses. The Chief Minister urged the Centre to expedite this approval and implement measures that would benefit the farming community across the State. He also emphasized the need for enhanced support for crop pricing, better procurement mechanisms, and timely relief for farmers affected by climatic and market challenges. Stalin stated that addressing these issues is crucial to ensuring farmer welfare, stabilizing agricultural incomes, and sustaining productivity, especially in the run-up to the forthcoming harvest season.
