Hanan Elatr Khashoggi, widow of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, urged Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to meet her and apologise for her husband’s killing. She said the crown prince should also compensate her for the loss. Her message on X stated that no one could justify the murder of a man who stood for transparency and press freedom.
Trump’s grand welcome for the crown prince triggered her renewed appeal. She wrote to the US president earlier, asking him to help her reach a settlement with Prince Mohammed. She said the prince’s recent comments about the killing being a “huge mistake” should come with direct action.
In her interview with CNN, she described the visit as painful. She imagined how Jamal would have shared his ideas with the crown prince if he were alive. She highlighted that he always hoped for space to speak and contribute to his country’s future.
Hanan said the murder destroyed her life and urged Washington to value human rights while dealing with Riyadh. Saudi authorities denied that the crown prince approved the operation, and Jamal’s body remains missing. A Saudi court sentenced several agents, but the case still lacks what she calls “real justice.”
