The BJP Kirtan Darbar Outreach gained momentum on Tuesday when the party held a kirtan darbar at Virasat-e-Khalsa, Anandpur Sahib. The BJP Kirtan Darbar Outreach is part of the 350th martyrdom anniversary events of Guru Teg Bahadur. It also shows a clear shift in the party’s outreach in Punjab.
For the first time, the BJP organised an independent Sikh religious programme in the state. Earlier, the party relied on its alliance with the SAD. However, after the alliance ended, the BJP began to build its own connection with Sikh voters. This new approach aims to expand its base before the 2027 Assembly elections.
A high-level team visited Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib before joining the event. Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, state president Sunil Jakhar and former Union minister Parneet Kaur offered prayers. Shekhawat said the Centre wants to highlight Guru Teg Bahadur’s message across the world. Kaur also said the state BJP will seek a development package for Anandpur Sahib.
Moreover, the party announced more programmes across Punjab this month. District-level kirtan darbars and Sukhmani Sahib recitations will take place till November 30. Analysts believe the BJP now wants a stronger presence in Sikh religious and cultural spaces. This shift marks a new strategy for the party in Punjab.
