Assam Drug Mafia Beating: CM Sarma Praises Police Raid

Assam Police seize large narcotics haul in Karbi Anglong during raid praised by CM Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has lauded the Assam Police for a major anti-narcotics operation in Karbi Anglong, declaring that the drug mafia got a Bollywood-style beating. The raid led to the seizure of contraband worth several crores of rupees, demonstrating the state government’s strict stance against narcotics trafficking.

According to official reports, police conducted a well-planned operation targeting drug networks operating in the region. During the raid, officers recovered morphine weighing several kilograms, valued at over ₹ 11 crore, along with other illicit substances. CM Sarma praised the operation on social media, stating that it sends a strong signal to criminals that Assam will not tolerate the drug trade.

The Chief Minister’s remarks highlight the severity of the drug menace in Assam and the government’s commitment to aggressive enforcement. Earlier operations in Karbi Anglong had also resulted in the seizure of 4.1 kg of morphine, valued at over ₹ 4 crore, showing a consistent crackdown on narcotics networks.

Local analysts believe Sarma’s description of the crackdown as a “Bollywood-style beating” emphasizes both the scale of the operation and the political message: the government is openly dismantling drug networks, not merely conducting low-profile raids. This move aims to boost public confidence in law enforcement and deter criminal activity in the region.

Authorities have indicated that the fight against narcotics in Assam is ongoing, with further intelligence-driven operations planned to target smuggling and trafficking routes. The CM reaffirmed the state’s zero-tolerance approach, underscoring the need for continued vigilance to ensure the safety and security of Assam’s citizens.
