Prime Minister Narendra Modi began a three-day visit to South Africa on Friday to attend the first-ever G20 Summit hosted on African soil. PM Modi said he will present India’s perspective “in line with our vision of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam—One Earth, One Family, One Future.” He will also participate in the sixth IBSA Summit during his stay in Johannesburg.

Calling the event a “particularly special Summit,” PM Modi noted that the African Union became a member of the G20 during India’s presidency in 2023, making this gathering historically significant. He added that the theme—Solidarity, Equality and Sustainability—builds on outcomes from New Delhi and Rio de Janeiro.

The Prime Minister is expected to address all three key sessions focusing on inclusive growth, climate resilience, disaster risk reduction, energy transition, food systems, critical minerals, decent work, and artificial intelligence.

PM Modi will also hold bilateral meetings with world leaders and interact with the Indian diaspora in South Africa, one of the largest Indian-origin communities globally.
