The Upendra Kushwaha nepotism row has created a major buzz in Bihar politics. The issue began after his son, Deepak Prakash, took oath as a minister in the NDA government. He is not an MLA or MLC, yet his direct entry into the cabinet pushed the Upendra Kushwaha nepotism row into the spotlight. Many believe he may soon be appointed as an MLC.
Facing sharp criticism, Upendra Kushwaha released a detailed clarification. He said he learned important lessons from history and compared his situation to the churning of the ocean, where nectar and poison appear together. Some people must drink the poison, he said, and this decision felt the same.
He explained that he took this step to protect his party’s future. In the past, the party faced huge struggles, including a merger that almost destroyed it. Leaders won elections but later left, leaving the organisation weak. Kushwaha said he did not want the party to return to “zero.”
He added that his son is qualified, with a computer science engineering degree, and deserves a chance to prove himself. Ability and competence, he said, matter more than caste or family background.
