Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday met Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in Johannesburg during his three-day visit to South Africa for the G20 Summit. The leaders discussed key areas of cooperation, strengthening their strategic partnership, and ongoing global challenges ahead of the multilateral gathering.

PM Modi arrived at the Waterkloof Air Force Base in Gauteng to a warm reception from the Indian community, who greeted him with traditional performances and enthusiastic chants. He was received by Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, South Africa’s Minister in the Presidency.

This year’s G20 Summit is historic as it is being hosted in Africa for the first time. PM Modi said he looked forward to “productive discussions” with global leaders, emphasising the importance of Africa’s role in shaping the future of international cooperation.

The meeting between Modi and Albanese comes amid deepening India–Australia ties across defence, trade, and regional security. Their engagement is expected to contribute significantly to the outcomes of the G20 deliberations in Johannesburg.
