Heavy Rains: Tamil Nadu Districts Declare Holidays for Schools, Colleges

Several districts in Tamil Nadu declared holidays for schools and colleges on Monday as heavy rains continued under the influence of an intensifying Northeast monsoon. Southern districts, including Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, and Kanniyakumari, have been experiencing widespread and persistent rainfall, prompting authorities to take precautionary measures. Local administrations issued alerts to residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas, urging them to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. Disaster response teams have been placed on standby, and officials are monitoring water levels in major dams and rivers. In some regions, roads reported waterlogging, disrupting traffic and slowing public transport. The State disaster management authorities have also advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea due to rough weather conditions. With rain expected to continue over the next few days, authorities are coordinating with revenue, public works, and health departments to ensure emergency preparedness and timely response to any emerging situations.
