Charges Against Kangana Ranaut Framed in Defamation Case became the major development in Bathinda on Monday as the special MP-MLA court moved the long-pending matter forward. The court framed charges in the 2021 defamation case filed by 82-year-old farmer Mahinder Kaur. This move pushed the Charges Against Kangana Ranaut Framed in Defamation Case narrative back into public focus.
The case began after Kangana posted a controversial tweet during the farmers’ agitation. She misidentified Mahinder Kaur as Shaheen Bagh protester Bilkis Bano and alleged that elderly women joined protests for money. The remarks triggered public anger and led Mahinder Kaur to file a complaint in January 2021.
Kangana appeared through video conferencing during Monday’s hearing. Her plea for permanent exemption from appearance faced objections from the complainant’s counsel, who argued that she must remain accountable. Her legal team will file a rejoinder in the next hearing on December 4.
Meanwhile, Mahinder Kaur’s husband, Labh Singh, attended the hearing and said the family would continue the legal fight. He expressed dissatisfaction with Kangana’s earlier oral apology.
The court previously granted Kangana bail on October 27 after a Supreme Court directive. With charges now framed, the case moves to the evidence stage.
