Bihar Education Minister Sunil Kumar Takes Charge, Announces Teacher Priority Rules

Bihar Education Minister Sunil Kumar taking charge at the Education Department

Bihar Education Minister Sunil Kumar took charge of the Education Department on Tuesday. Bihar Education Minister Sunil Kumar said that filling vacant posts, especially teacher posts, will be his first priority. Education Secretary Dinesh Kumar welcomed him with a bouquet during the ceremony.

The minister said that the government will fill all teacher vacancies as fast as possible. The department has already released an order explaining how teacher priority will work in different schools across the state.

Assistant teachers from the divisional cadre will get priority in secondary and higher secondary schools. They will come before local body teachers, school teachers, and special educators. In primary and middle schools, district-cadre assistant teachers will be treated as senior to others. If a school does not have a divisional-cadre assistant teacher, officials will follow appointment rules to decide priority.

Sunil Kumar won the Bhore Assembly seat on a JDU ticket. He defeated CPI(ML)’s Dhananjay by more than 16,000 votes and secured over one lakh votes. This is his second time as Education Minister in the Nitish Kumar government.

Before politics, he served as Bihar’s Director General of Police. He was an IPS officer from the 1987 batch and retired in 2020.
