The Rabri Devi Residence became a major political topic in Bihar after the new government reviewed bungalow allotments. The Nitish Kumar administration planned to shift the Rabri Devi Residence, but the decision drew criticism. The key reason behind this move was linked to an old case involving Tejashwi Yadav.
Rabri Devi currently lives at 10, Circular Road. She was offered a new bungalow at Harding Road. Lalu Prasad Yadav also stays in the same complex. After recent elections, tension increased when Tejashwi Yadav and Rohini Acharya reportedly argued at this address.
RJD called the government order an act of revenge. The party said the move came because of BJP’s influence. They claimed the government targeted Rabri Devi after the court case related to Tejashwi Yadav’s former bungalow.
Tejashwi’s dispute began in 2017, when he was asked to vacate the bungalow given to him as Deputy Chief Minister. He took the matter to the High Court. During the hearings, the court found that a 2010 rule allowed lifetime bungalows for former Chief Ministers.
In 2019, the court cancelled that rule. Because this protection was removed, the government gained the power to shift former CM residences. This is why the attempt to change the Rabri Devi Residence happened, though political pressure later stopped it.
