Haryana issues 63,000 drunk driving challans

Haryana Police have issued 63,073 challans for drunk driving this year, with Gurugram alone accounting for nearly 25,000, officials said on Wednesday. The crackdown reflects the state’s ongoing efforts to curb alcohol-impaired driving and improve road safety.

Gurugram led the state with 24,972 challans, followed by Faridabad (7,402), Karnal (4,851), Panchkula (4,180), and Jind (3,109). Police have been conducting regular special drives across all districts, targeting not only drunk driving but also lane discipline, noise pollution, and misuse of red-blue lights.

Special police teams operate at all major toll plazas from 6 pm to 10 pm. Equipped with alco-sensor and e-challan machines, they check drivers on the spot and take immediate action against offenders. Police headquarters regularly reviews weekly reports and directs districts to make campaigns more effective and result-oriented.

Haryana Police have urged citizens to remain vigilant and advise family, friends, and colleagues not to drive under the influence of alcohol. The campaigns have helped raise awareness and reduce road accidents caused by intoxicated drivers. Officials said that these drives will continue until a significant decline in drunk driving is achieved across the state.

The enforcement measures demonstrate Haryana’s commitment to road safety and public awareness while maintaining strict action against violators.
