SIT Questions Sabarimala Tantris in Gold Theft Case
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Sabarimala gold theft case has questioned the temple’s tantris, marking a significant development in the investigation just ahead of the Mandala-Makaravilakku pilgrimage season. The late emergence of this information in the public domain suggests that the inquiry has now reached the core of the temple’s traditional priestly hierarchy, signalling a sensitive phase in the probe.
Tantri Kandararu Rajeevaru, speaking to reporters in Pathanamthitta, said he had “honestly answered” all questions posed by the investigators. The SIT’s move indicates its attempt to trace all possible leads in the case, which involves the disappearance of gold items associated with temple rituals. With the annual pilgrimage season approaching and millions of devotees expected, the investigation’s progress has drawn heightened attention. Authorities emphasise that the probe will continue without disrupting temple activities and preparations for the festival season.
