Coimbatore Corporation Commissions Floating Solar Plant at Periyakulam
The Coimbatore Municipal Corporation has commissioned a floating solar power plant at Periyakulam, marking a significant step towards sustainable energy adoption in the city. The plant, designed to harness solar energy on water surfaces, aims to reduce the city’s dependence on conventional power sources while optimising the use of available water bodies.
Floating solar technology is increasingly being recognised for its efficiency, as it minimizes land use and reduces water evaporation from reservoirs. The project aligns with the city’s commitment to renewable energy and environmental sustainability, contributing to both energy security and climate action goals.
Officials stated that the plant would not only generate clean energy but also serve as a model for other urban local bodies in Tamil Nadu and across India. The commissioning of this plant reflects the civic body’s proactive measures to integrate green infrastructure and sustainable solutions in urban planning, benefiting both residents and the environment.
