Two Mizoram schools — Mount Carmel School and La Montessori School — will represent the state at the national Reading Decathlon in Indore on November 29. Food4thought is organising the event, and this is the first time Mizoram students have secured a place at the national level.
Four students qualified after topping the Mizoram-level competition. Mount Carmel School will send Rebek Malsawmzuali and Krista Roluahpuia Khiangte. Malsawmhlui Pachuau and Joshua Lalawmpuia will represent La Montessori School. All four students left for Indore on Wednesday.
Before their departure, Mizoram Youth Commission (MYC) Chairman Malsawmzuala Ralte met the team at the MYC Conference Hall. He congratulated them for creating history and becoming Mizoram’s first-ever participants in the Reading Decathlon. Ralte encouraged them to continue developing strong reading habits and urged them to perform with confidence.
The Reading Decathlon tests students through multiple reading-based challenges designed to improve comprehension, analytical skills and creativity. Students from various states will compete for national recognition at the event in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
The Mizoram team hopes to showcase the state’s growing emphasis on reading and literacy. Teachers and parents expressed confidence that the students will perform well and return with honours.
