Stir Intensifies as Contract Workers Lock Main Gate at NMDC Plants
Protests escalated at the NMDC plants in Kalaburagi as contract workers locked the main gate on Thursday, intensifying their ongoing agitation. More than 500 workers participated in the blockade, demanding the immediate reinstatement of all recently terminated contract employees. The protesters alleged that the sudden termination of services had severely affected the livelihoods of several families who depend on contractual work at the plants.
Workers claimed that despite repeated appeals, the management had not responded adequately to their concerns, forcing them to take stronger action. The blockade disrupted regular operations, drawing the attention of local authorities and unions, who have urged the NMDC management to engage in dialogue with the workers to resolve the issue.
Union leaders warned that the protest would continue until the management agreed to reinstatement and improved job security. The situation remains tense as negotiations are yet to begin.
