Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal strongly criticised the arrest of Kanchanpreet Kaur, daughter of Tarn Taran bypoll candidate Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa. He said the police revived an old and fabricated case to create fear before the Zila Parishad and Block Samiti elections.
He added that Tarn Taran Police “once again targeted” her without justification. According to him, the action reflects political pressure rather than legal necessity.
The Majitha police took Kaur into custody after nearly six hours of questioning. The case relates to allegations of obstructing police duty during the Tarn Taran by-election. She appeared before the police on court orders and had already secured bail in earlier cases.
Badal called the arrest illegal and said Kaur joined the investigation as a responsible citizen. He accused the Aam Aadmi Party government of using police force to settle political scores.
He warned that officers who support unlawful actions will face consequences under the law. Further police details are expected.
