MP Abdul Rashid Sheikh gets Parliament Session permission after a special NIA court in Delhi agreed to let him attend the Winter Session under custody. The court took this decision following the NIA’s no-objection response and after reviewing the MP’s plea.

The Winter Session of Parliament begins on December 1. Sheikh, the Baramulla MP, remains in custody in a terror-related case filed by the National Investigation Agency. His legal team, led by Advocates Vikhyat Oberoi and Nishita Gupta, argued that he needs to represent his constituency in the House.

Judge Prashant Sharma approved his plea under an earlier condition. The court noted that Sheikh also has a pending request before the Delhi High Court regarding the cost linked to travelling under custody. His lawyers stated that they accept custody parole if the High Court settles the cost issue.

The NIA confirmed it had no objection to his attendance as long as he remains in custody. Sheikh previously sought interim bail or parole without cost so he could join the session responsibly.

The High Court delivered a split verdict on November 7 regarding travel expenses. A single-judge bench now handles the matter. With this clearance, MP Abdul Rashid Sheikh gets Parliament Session permission to attend proceedings.
