Nurses Association Disputes Minister’s Claim of Zero Vacancies in Health Department

Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma. Subramanian has reiterated that there are zero vacancies in the State Health Department, asserting that all sanctioned posts have been filled. His statement comes amid ongoing demands from nursing groups for additional recruitment to strengthen healthcare delivery across government hospitals.
However, the Tamil Nadu Nurses Empowerment Association has strongly refuted the Minister’s claim. According to the association, nearly 1,500 nursing posts—meant to be filled through the Medical Services Recruitment Board—remain vacant. They further contend that around 1,000 contract nursing positions are yet to be filled, leading to increased workload on existing staff and affecting patient care.
The association has urged the government to acknowledge the staffing gaps and initiate immediate recruitment to address shortages. They argue that the State’s expanding healthcare infrastructure requires more personnel, especially nurses who form the backbone of clinical services. Discussions between the department and nursing representatives are expected to continue.
