BJP leader Captain Amarinder Singh has openly supported the idea of reviving the BJP–Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) alliance for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections. In a recent interview, Singh said the BJP still lacks deep organisational strength in Punjab and needs time to build a strong cadre base.
He stated that winning the 2027 elections would be difficult without an alliance. “If you want to win the 2027 assembly election, you will have to build your cadre, but it will take two to three elections,” he said. Amarinder Singh added that partnering with SAD remains the most practical route for the BJP to gain ground in the state.
The BJP and SAD had a long-standing coalition until the Centre’s controversial farm laws created a major rift. SAD withdrew support in solidarity with protesting farmers, who later compelled the government to repeal the laws. Singh believes reuniting could strengthen both parties ahead of the upcoming polls.
