Supreme Court Halts POCSO Proceedings Against Former CM Yediyurappa

The Supreme Court has stayed the POCSO trial against former Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, questioning the validity of the charges and agreeing to review the matter further. The court indicated that the case may be sent back to the High Court for fresh examination, pausing all trial proceedings in the meantime.
Yediyurappa’s defence argued that crucial evidence had been overlooked, including statements asserting that “nothing had happened” during the alleged incident. They contended that the prosecution’s case lacked credibility and that several inconsistencies needed closer judicial scrutiny.
The case stems from a 2024 complaint accusing the former Chief Minister of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl who had visited his residence seeking assistance. Earlier, a trial court had taken cognisance of the charges, while the High Court had granted interim relief by staying the summons pending review.
