The Punjab Raj Bhavan has officially been renamed as Lok Bhavan Punjab. The state government received a communication from the Ministry of Home Affairs on November 25 directing the name change. Following this, an official notification was issued on Thursday by Vivek Pratap Singh, Principal Secretary to the Governor. This decision aligns with the Centre’s recent move to rename several government residences, including the Prime Minister’s residence.
Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria announced the name change during the multi-state foundation day celebrations held at Punjab Raj Bhavan on Thursday evening. He said that renaming Raj Bhavan to Lok Bhavan reflects India’s democratic spirit and the principle of greater public participation. As part of the Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat initiative, the foundation days of Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Assam, and Nagaland were also celebrated.
The event featured cultural performances from different states, including Uttarakhand’s Nanda Devi Palaki dance, Jharkhand’s tribal presentation, Assam’s Bihu, and Nagaland’s Bamboo and Warrior dances. Video messages from the respective Governors were also shared. Senior officials, including India’s Additional Solicitor General Satya Pal Jain, were present for the occasion.
