Lokayukta Inspections in Bengaluru Schools Reveal Overpriced Equipment, Absent Headmasters

Surprise inspections conducted by the Lokayukta in Bengaluru’s Education Department offices revealed that computers, UPS units, and LED smart TVs purchased for schools were overpriced. The probe aimed to examine procurement practices and ensure that public funds were used efficiently. Officials noted discrepancies between market prices and the rates paid, raising concerns about possible financial irregularities.
In addition, Lokayukta teams conducted video calls with school headmasters during school hours and discovered that many headmasters were not present on campus. This raised questions about administrative oversight and accountability in government schools.
Authorities emphasised that the inspections are part of ongoing efforts to curb corruption, ensure transparency, and improve governance in the education sector. Further investigations are expected to identify responsible officials and take appropriate action. The findings have prompted calls for stricter monitoring of procurement processes and attendance in schools to ensure resources reach their intended beneficiaries and educational standards are maintained.
