Private Bus Fares Soar as IndiGo Flight Disruptions Leave Thousands Scrambling
Private bus fares have sharply increased as thousands of passengers scramble for alternatives following widespread IndiGo flight disruptions. Reports indicate that in many cases, bus fares now exceed the original cost of the cancelled flight tickets.
Travelers said they faced long queues and limited availability on buses, prompting operators to raise prices. “We had no other option. The fare is higher than the flight, but we had to reach our destination,” said a commuter stranded in Bengaluru.
Transport officials acknowledged the surge in demand and warned against unfair price hikes. They said regulators are monitoring routes to ensure operators do not exploit the situation.
Many passengers turned to online booking platforms to secure seats, but demand continues to outstrip supply. Some long-distance buses have been added to accommodate travelers, but delays and overcrowding remain common.
Experts said this disruption highlights the need for better contingency planning during flight cancellations, including affordable alternative transport. Passengers have urged airlines and transport authorities to coordinate better to prevent such situations in the future.
