Punjab Farmers Protest News spread across the state on Monday as farmers protested the draft Electricity Amendment Bill 2025 and Seed Bill 2025. They demanded the Centre withdraw both bills. Power department workers also joined the rallies.
Farmers burned copies of the bills at multiple locations. In Hoshiarpur, protests occurred in Mukerian, Dasuya, Sham Chaurasi, and Marnaian Khurd outside PSPCL offices. In Garhshankar, they marched from Gandhi Park to the PSPCL Executive Engineer’s office.
Leaders from Kirti Kisan Union, Kisan Samiti Doaba, Jamhoori Kisan Sabha, Kul Hind Kisan Sabha, and BKU (Rajewal) led the marches. They called the bills anti-farmer and anti-people. The electricity bill may privatize the power sector and increase consumer costs, they warned.
In Mohali, protesters raised slogans outside the PSPCL sub-division office. Earlier, Kisan Mazdoor Morcha staged a two-hour rail roko over the same bills, showing widespread farmer opposition.
