The AI Centre of Excellence for Healthcare has been launched at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, marking a major leap in India’s health technology journey. The initiative aims to bring advanced artificial intelligence directly into medical research and healthcare delivery.
Officials said the AI Centre of Excellence for Healthcare will work as a multidisciplinary hub. It will connect doctors, data scientists, and AI researchers to tackle complex medical problems together.
The centre will focus on developing AI tools for early diagnosis, treatment planning, and efficient healthcare services. Research areas will include medical imaging, predictive analytics, personalised medicine, and public health modelling.
Moreover, IISc faculty highlighted strong collaboration with hospitals and healthcare partners. This approach will help convert research outcomes into real-world clinical solutions.
The hub will also host joint research programmes, training workshops, and innovation challenges for young researchers. As a result, it will nurture future talent in AI-driven healthcare.
According to IISc, a key objective is to build scalable AI solutions that improve affordability and access, especially in underserved regions. The centre will also promote ethical AI, data privacy, and transparent model development.
Industry experts welcomed the move, calling it a boost to Bengaluru’s global standing in healthcare innovation. Several pilot projects are already under way.
