Chaos broke out during football icon Lionel Messi’s visit to Kolkata on Saturday. As part of his tour, Messi attended a programme at the Salt Lake Stadium in the morning. Earlier, organisers announced that a friendly football match would take place. Therefore, a huge number of fans gathered at the stadium expecting to watch Messi play.
However, Messi did not participate in any match. Instead, he only greeted the crowd and left shortly after the event. As a result, fans expressed strong anger over what they called misleading arrangements. Many supporters felt disappointed and claimed the organisers failed to keep their promise.
Soon after, the situation worsened inside the stadium. Angry fans threw chairs and water bottles onto the field. They also damaged seats, tore flex banners, and tried to cross barricades. Consequently, panic spread across the venue within minutes.
Meanwhile, due to the growing unrest, Messi’s team exited the stadium through a tunnel for safety. Police forces rushed in and tried to control the crowd. Authorities are continuing efforts to restore order and prevent further disturbances around the stadium.
