Andhra Pradesh mandates twice-monthly e-waste collection drives across ULBs

The Andhra Pradesh government has made it mandatory for all Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) to conduct two e-waste collection drives every month as part of efforts to strengthen environmentally safe disposal of electronic waste. According to a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued by the State government, the drives must be held on the 10th and 20th of every month.
The SOP directs ULBs to set up designated e-waste collection points and ensure proper segregation, storage and handover to authorised recyclers. Strict record-keeping of the quantity and type of e-waste collected has been made compulsory. Each ULB has also been instructed to appoint a dedicated Nodal Officer to oversee implementation, monitor compliance and coordinate with registered recyclers.

The initiative aims to reduce environmental pollution and health risks caused by improper disposal of electronic items such as mobile phones, computers and household appliances. The government said awareness campaigns should be conducted alongside the drives to encourage public participation and responsible e-waste management.
