The MP road quality scandal came into sharp focus after a BJP MLA publicly exposed alleged substandard construction in Madhya Pradesh’s Dindori district. Shahpura MLA and former cabinet minister Om Prakash Dhurve accused officials of allowing poor-quality roads despite recent renovation work.

Dhurve visited the Shahpura–Manikpur road during an early morning inspection. He shocked locals by peeling off the road’s asphalt with his bare hands. The road was rebuilt barely a month ago. He said the surface should not crumble so easily if construction followed proper standards.

The MLA stated that authorities spent nearly ₹58 lakh on the renovation. Despite this, the asphalt came off on touch. He claimed engineers and the sub-divisional officer had already submitted reports certifying the road as satisfactory.

Dhurve raised similar concerns about the Rai–Kukarra road under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. He said loose gravel appeared there as well. He questioned whether department officials were monitoring work on the ground.

The MLA announced he would complain to the concerned minister. Meanwhile, local residents expressed anger over repeated lapses. A PWD executive engineer said on-site engineers and officers oversee construction, as scrutiny over accountability intensifies.
