Rajasthan Police have arrested the mastermind behind the REET 2021 dummy candidate scam after nearly five years on the run. The accused, Vijay Singh alias Vijay Dev, carried a ₹5,000 reward and evaded arrest since 2021. Police nabbed him in Kotputli-Behror district following a tip-off.
The case dates back to September 26, 2021, during the REET exam at Rao Piyush Singh College in Jakharana. Trouble surfaced when two men appeared with identical admit cards and IDs. One man already sat inside the exam hall. Another tried to enter 20 minutes later with the same credentials.
Alert invigilator Hardwari Lal noticed the mismatch during verification. Staff stopped the second man as he tried to flee. Centre superintendent Lokesh Kumar and supervisor Monica Yadav detained both suspects and informed police.
Authorities arrested original candidate Rahul Singh and dummy candidate Saurav Singh the next day. However, Vijay Singh and another accused escaped. Police later announced cash rewards for their capture.
Station House Officer Vikrant Sharma said a special team tracked Vijay Singh through intelligence inputs. Police are now questioning him to uncover the wider network behind the exam fraud.
