Punauradham Temple development site in Sitamarhi with proposed Janaki Temple complex

Construction work for the Punauradham Temple development in Sitamarhi has officially begun. The Bihar Tourism Department has issued a work order after completing the tender process.

The Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation awarded the project to Ahluwalia Contracts. The order was issued on Monday, marking a major step forward.

The Punauradham Temple development aims to upgrade the existing temple and build a large religious tourism complex. Several tourism-related facilities will also come up as part of the plan.

The project will include operations and management for 10 years after completion. The total project cost is ₹942.383 crore. The construction period has been fixed at 42 months.

Punauradham is being developed on the lines of Ayodhya. The site is believed to be the birthplace of Mother Sita, giving it deep religious importance. The government wants to turn it into a national-level pilgrimage and tourist destination.

Around 50 acres of land will be acquired for development. Seventeen acres are already available near the temple.

Key features include a circumambulation path, rampart, anushthan mandap, and beautification of Maa Janaki Kund. A museum and auditorium will also be built. The main temple will rise to a height of 151 feet.
