Helmet compulsory for motorcyclists in Tirupati to improve road safety

Helmet compulsory for motorcyclists in Tirupati has come into force from Monday as part of a new road safety drive by the city police. The move aims to reduce head injuries and fatalities caused by two-wheeler accidents.
Under the ‘No Helmet – No Petrol’ rule, petrol bunks across the city will supply fuel only to riders who wear helmets. Police officials said fuel station owners have been clearly instructed to follow the rule without exceptions. Teams have been formed to monitor implementation and create awareness among commuters.
Officials said many accident deaths involved riders without helmets. They added that strict enforcement would help change behaviour and encourage safe riding habits. Police personnel will also conduct regular checks at busy junctions and accident-prone areas.
The traffic police have appealed to motorcyclists to cooperate with the initiative and treat helmets as a basic safety necessity rather than a legal burden. They stressed that the rule is meant to protect lives, not to penalise riders.
Helmet compulsory for motorcyclists in Tirupati will continue as a long-term safety measure. Authorities believe consistent enforcement will significantly improve road discipline in the pilgrim city.
