Andhra Pradesh clears land allotment for Sagar Defence’s autonomous shipyard near Nellore

Andhra allots land to Sagar Defence near Nellore for setting up an autonomous maritime shipyard, marking a major step in strengthening the State’s defence manufacturing ecosystem. The State government has approved the allocation of land at a suitable coastal location to support advanced shipbuilding activities.
Officials said the proposed shipyard will focus on the construction of autonomous surface vessels and underwater platforms for defence and commercial use. The project aligns with the Centre’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives in the defence sector.
Construction of the shipyard is scheduled to commence in December. Once operational, the facility is expected to generate significant direct and indirect employment for local youth. It will also help create a supporting ecosystem of ancillary industries in and around Nellore district.
Senior officials said the government is committed to attracting high-technology investments and positioning Andhra Pradesh as a hub for maritime and defence manufacturing. Necessary infrastructure support, including road connectivity and utilities, will be extended to ensure timely completion of the project.
Andhra allots land to Sagar Defence as part of its broader strategy to promote industrial growth, innovation, and skilled employment while contributing to national security objectives.
