Singareni Collieries and Altmin collaborate on lithium refinery in Telangana
Singareni Collieries and Altmin have announced a collaboration to establish a battery-grade lithium refinery in Hyderabad, Telangana. The refinery is expected to commence operations by 2027 and is positioned to play a strategic role in supporting India’s rapidly expanding electric vehicle (EV) and energy storage sectors.
Officials said the joint initiative will focus on producing high-purity lithium suitable for EV batteries and renewable energy storage solutions. The project aligns with India’s push to strengthen domestic supply chains and reduce dependence on imports for critical minerals.
The refinery is also expected to generate employment and create a supporting ecosystem for ancillary industries in Telangana. Both Singareni and Altmin highlighted that the facility would follow global environmental and safety standards.
Industry experts said the Hyderabad refinery will be a key milestone in India’s EV and clean energy transition, providing critical raw materials for battery manufacturing and contributing to the country’s energy security. Singareni Collieries and Altmin’s collaboration reflects India’s growing focus on sustainable, high-tech infrastructure in the renewable energy and electric mobility sectors.
