Hijab Video Controversy: Legal Trouble Grows for Nitish Kumar After Viral Clip

Hijab video controversy involving Bihar CM Nitish Kumar sparks complaint and political backlash

The hijab video controversy has triggered fresh political tension after a formal complaint was filed against Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The complaint was lodged by Samajwadi Party leader Sumaiya Rana at a police station in Lucknow. She demanded strict legal action over the viral video.

In the video, Nitish Kumar is seen allegedly pulling the hijab of a Muslim woman during a public event. The clip spread quickly on social media and drew sharp criticism from several quarters. The hijab video controversy has now moved from social media outrage to legal scrutiny.

Sumaiya Rana said the act hurt the dignity of the woman and insulted religious sentiments. She accused the Chief Minister of setting a wrong example through his behaviour. Rana urged the police to register an FIR under relevant legal sections.

The complaint also names Uttar Pradesh minister Sanjay Nishad. Rana objected to his remarks defending Nitish Kumar. She said his comments trivialised the incident and justified inappropriate conduct.

So far, the police have not registered an FIR. Political reactions continue to pour in, with opposition parties demanding accountability. The issue has reopened debate on respect, public conduct, and the responsibility of leaders in public life.
