An insurance claim fraud case has shocked Bhagalpur after a couple allegedly claimed ₹1.38 crore for the death of an unborn child. The insurance claim fraud came to light during a routine verification by the insurance company.
According to the complaint, the couple runs a diagnostic centre in Bhagalpur. They took two high-value insurance policies in September last year. In March, they submitted claims stating that their child had died in January.
During verification, insurance officials found serious irregularities. The medical records and prescriptions appeared fake. The death certificate raised suspicion. Doctors whose names appeared in the documents denied issuing them.
Investigators visited the couple’s village to cross-check details. Locals told officials that the couple has only two living children. No one had heard about the child mentioned in the insurance papers.
The insurance company then filed a formal complaint at Barari police station. Police registered a case and started a detailed investigation. Officers are now examining hospital records, policy documents, and financial transactions.
Police officials said strict action will follow if the allegations are proven. The case has raised concerns about misuse of insurance systems and forged medical documents in Bihar.
