Jagan Vows Legal Battle Against PPP Model for Medical Colleges
YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday said his party would challenge the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model for establishing medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh in court. Addressing party leaders in Vijayawada, Mr. Jagan termed the model “anti-student and anti-poor,” alleging that it would lead to commercialisation of medical education and place a heavy financial burden on aspiring doctors.
He said the YSRCP had launched a statewide campaign opposing the policy and claimed that party leaders and cadre had collected a record 1,04,11,136 signatures from the public against the PPP model. According to him, the overwhelming response reflected people’s strong opposition to privatisation in the health and education sectors.
Mr. Jagan accused the State government of deviating from its responsibility to provide affordable and quality medical education. He reiterated that the YSRCP would continue its legal and democratic fight to protect public interest and ensure accessible healthcare education for all sections of society.
