The burqa controversy has intensified after BSP chief Mayawati strongly criticised Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. She asked him to repent and take immediate steps to end the dispute. The burqa controversy has, she said, hurt public sentiment and should not have been allowed to grow.
Mayawati was reacting to a recent public event where a woman doctor’s hijab was removed during a function attended by Nitish Kumar. She said the matter involved a woman’s dignity and should have been handled with sensitivity.
She added that instead of calming the situation, political statements have made the issue worse. According to her, leaders must act responsibly, especially on matters linked to personal freedom and respect.
The BSP leader also referred to another incident involving a police parade, where standard rules were ignored. She said such actions damage discipline and create unnecessary tension.
Mayawati criticised recent sessions of Parliament and state assemblies as well. She claimed that lawmakers spent more time arguing than discussing real public problems.
She urged governments to focus on issues like safety, employment, and social harmony. Mayawati said controversies like this divert attention from people’s everyday concerns and harm the country’s image.
