A major fire broke out at the popular Sindhi Sweets outlet in Chandigarh’s Sector 17 late Saturday night. The incident triggered panic in the busy commercial area, prompting authorities to seal the surroundings as a precaution.
Local residents noticed heavy smoke rising from the shop and alerted the fire department. Fire tenders from Sector 17 reached the spot quickly, while another unit arrived from Sector 11 to assist. Police teams also secured the area to prevent crowding and ensure safety.
Firefighters worked for nearly two hours to control the blaze. By the time the flames were extinguished, a large portion of goods inside the shop had been damaged. No injuries were reported, as the outlet was closed when the fire started.
Fire officials said the fire began in the false ceiling, which made operations difficult. Initial findings suggest a short circuit as the likely cause. A detailed assessment will confirm the exact reason.
Fire officer Jagtaar Singh said the department received the call around 4:00 am from shop staff. He added that the prompt response helped prevent the fire from spreading to nearby establishments.
Authorities praised the quick coordination that avoided a bigger disaster.
