Master Saleem’s father, Purun Shah Koti, passed away on Monday after a prolonged illness. He was 72. He breathed his last in Jalandhar, where he had been receiving medical treatment for several days. Purun Shah Koti lived with his son in Deol Nagar, Jalandhar.
Family members said his health had declined steadily over the past few days. Doctors treated him at a local hospital, but his condition did not improve. His death has left the Punjabi music community in deep mourning.
Purun Shah Koti was a respected mentor and music teacher. He trained several well-known Punjabi singers during his career. Among them was renowned singer and former MP Hansraj Hans. Singer Jasbir Jassi also received guidance from him. Many artists credit him for shaping their musical journeys.
