Sudhakar Reddy farewell with state honours in Hyderabad

Hyderabad witnessed an emotional farewell on Sunday as veteran Communist leader and former CPI national general secretary, Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy, was laid to rest with full state honours. His final journey began from the party’s state office, Makhdoom Bhavan, in Himayatnagar. The mortal remains were later taken to Gandhi Medical College.

Thousands of followers, party workers, and supporters joined the procession, raising slogans of “Comrade Amar Rahe” as red flags filled the air. Police offered a ceremonial guard of honour, followed by a five-round gun salute. Red Army members and CPI cadres paid their last respects, while his family handed over the body to Gandhi Medical College.

Earlier, several dignitaries visited Makhdoom Bhavan to pay tributes. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu became emotional while recalling Reddy’s dedication. Former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu hailed him as a leader who remained firm in ideology till his last breath. Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy described Sudhakar Reddy as the “voice of the poor and oppressed” and praised his uncompromising political life.

Several ministers, BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao, and leaders from Left parties also offered tributes, remembering his simple lifestyle and lifelong commitment to people’s causes.
