The Madhya Pradesh government has announced a historic change for Betul district. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav declared that the town of Multai will soon be renamed Multapi. The state government will send a formal proposal to the Centre for approval.

The announcement came during a major development event in Betul, where Union Health Minister and BJP national president JP Nadda and Chief Minister Mohan Yadav laid the foundation stone of a new medical college. The ceremony took place at the police ground and marked a significant step in strengthening the region’s healthcare system.

While addressing the gathering, CM Mohan Yadav highlighted the religious and cultural importance of Multai. He described the town as the origin of the Tapti River and said the renaming honors “Suryaputri Maa Tapti.” The Chief Minister noted that local residents had demanded this change for years.

Union Minister JP Nadda said the upcoming medical college will transform healthcare in the district. He stated that doctors will now reach rural areas and postgraduate medical education will become available locally. He also claimed previous governments ignored tribal regions in medical infrastructure development.

The event was attended by Union Minister Durga Das Uikey, Deputy CM Rajendra Shukla, BJP state president VD Sharma, and Betul MLA Hemant Khandelwal. CM Mohan Yadav also announced new industrial areas and inaugurated multiple development projects to boost employment.
