11 Dead, Several Injured as Truck Collides with Sleeper Bus in Chitradurga, Karnataka
At least 11 people were killed and several others injured when a truck collided with a sleeper bus in Karnataka’s Chitradurga district on Wednesday, officials said. The private bus, which was travelling from Bengaluru to Gokarna via Shivamogga, caught fire after being hit from behind by the truck, exacerbating the tragedy.
Emergency services rushed to the site to rescue passengers trapped inside the bus. Many of the injured were immediately taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, with several in critical condition. Authorities said the exact cause of the collision is under investigation, including whether over-speeding, driver fatigue, or road conditions contributed to the accident.
Local police have launched a probe and are examining vehicle logs and witness statements. Officials also emphasised the importance of road safety, especially on busy highways during the holiday season, and appealed to transport operators and drivers to exercise caution to prevent such catastrophic incidents in the future.
