Sultanganj Greenfield Airport Plan Advances in Bihar

The Sultanganj greenfield airport plan in Bhagalpur district, Bihar, is moving forward. This airport will be India’s 22nd greenfield airport and the first in Bihar. The aviation directorate has started preparations for site clearance.

The directorate has sent a letter to the Bhagalpur District Magistrate asking for important documents. These include a topographical map from the Survey of India, showing contours within 30 km of the proposed airport site. They also requested a flood assessment report, a wind rose diagram, and other land-related data.

These documents will help engineers understand the land’s height, slope, and drainage. This information is critical for planning construction, managing water flow, and preventing soil erosion.

Greenfield airports are built on undeveloped land, unlike expanding existing airports. The Sultanganj project is expected to improve connectivity in Bihar and boost economic development in Bhagalpur and nearby areas.

Officials are optimistic that once the documents are received and surveys completed, construction can begin, bringing the vision of a modern airport closer to reality.
