Congress March in Patna Marks Foundation Day With MNREGA Protest

Congress march in Patna protesting to save MNREGA

The Congress march in Patna took place on the party’s foundation day as leaders and workers hit the streets to protest changes to MNREGA. The rally began from Sadaqat Ashram and moved towards Gandhi Maidan, drawing a large turnout of party supporters.

During the Congress march in Patna, leaders accused the central government of weakening the rural employment scheme. They said MNREGA once ensured dignity and income for poor families by guaranteeing 100 days of work every year.

Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee president Rajesh Ram led the march. He said removing Mahatma Gandhi’s name from the scheme disrespects its original spirit. He added that rural workers now face delays in wages and reduced job opportunities.

Several senior leaders addressed the crowd at Gandhi Maidan. They raised concerns over rising unemployment, farmer distress, and growing debt among women linked to microfinance loans. The speakers said strong welfare schemes remain vital for Bihar’s villages.

The party also announced the launch of the “MNREGA Bachao Abhiyan.” This campaign will start across Bihar from January 5. Congress leaders said they will reach out to people at the grassroots level to protect jobs and demand accountability.

The march remained peaceful and ended with a pledge to continue the movement statewide.
